Laser Technician

General Job Description

NUBURU Inc. is looking for a highly motivated Laser technician to join our Production team and work with the next generation of industrial laser systems. The technician will be part of a dynamic team and work to meet Customer demand for cutting-edge laser systems. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following skills:

  • Experience with opto-mechanical assembly and laser alignment
  • Experience in the assembly of high tolerance, complex opto-mechanical products
  • Experience with manufacturing, Lean, Six Signa & statistical process control (SPC)
  • Hands-on experience with Shop Floor Control systems, Kan Ban, Inventory control
  • Start-up experience is an asset
  • Ability to work unsupervised and effectively in a team environment
  • Good time management, organizational, written & verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Key responsibilities related to this position are as follows:

  • Build and test components, sub-assemblies and finished laser systems
  • Work with Production Lead to manage Work Order assignment to ensure production schedules are met
  • Follow Work Instructions & SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Adhere to all Cleanroom Protocol and safety procedures
  • Perform inventory of production components and supplies as required
  • Escalate issues or concerns about quality, processes, equipment, materials
  • Work with support staff to resolve issues impacting Operations
  • Update production KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) as required
  • Identify and support continuous improvement efforts
  • Assist with implementation and sustaining lean manufacturing and 5S activities
  • Follow policies and procedures and detailed in Nuburu’s Quality Systems
  • Participate in daily SOS/EOS meetings and communicate progress and updates
  • Work with Mfg. Engineering on tool calibration and equipment maintenance
  • Participate in Safety Audits and related events

Preferred credentials and experience

  • An Associate degree in Optics or Lasers or equivalent industrial experience
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience manufacturing in two or more for of the following areas: high power lasers, fiber or semiconductor lasers, optical sub-systems

Manufacturing Engineer

NUBURU Inc. is looking for a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer to join our Operations team and work with the next generation of industrial laser systems. The Engineer will work in conjunction with Production and Product Dev. teams to develop and implement production processes, methods and controls to improve cost, efficiency, quality and output of cutting-edge laser systems. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of lasers and optics
  • Experience with laser and laser system assembly, testing, troubleshooting) or experience in the assembly of high tolerance, complex opto-mechanical products
  • Experience with data acquisition & analysis software (LabVIEW, MATLAB etc.) an asset
  • Ability to analyze complex data to understand process and product performance
  • Experience with manual/automated optical assembly and test an asset
  • Formal Six Sigma, Lean, 5S, Problem Solving, Design of Experiments, SPC an asset
  • Strong time management, organizational, written & verbal communication skills

Key responsibilities related to this position are as follows:

  • Support production and address issues impacting operational performance
  • Design, install and evaluate production assembly fixtures, tooling and equipment
  • Define process control points and maintain detailed process flow diagrams
  • Analyze production product/process data to proactively identify trends or issues
  • Investigate failure root cause and initiate corrective action to problems arising from deficiencies in raw materials, production processes, inspection and test processes
  • Optimize manufacturing processes to eliminate waste and improve quality
  • Implement Lean, Six Sigma concepts and best-in-class manufacturing techniques
  • Prepare assembly documentation (WIs, SOPs)
  • Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair activities

Mechanical Engineer

  • Experience with packaging of opto-electronics components and assemblies, design and test of hermetic packages (experience with design of packages for laser assemblies is preferred)
  • High level of competency with mechanical design (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
  • Experience with machining, sheet metal processing, and metal finishing processes
  • Experience with cleaning technologies is a plus
  • Ability to develop assembly procedures and tooling
  • Strong ability to work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team and coordinate with optical, electrical and other engineering disciplines
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Define and understand system level requirements by interacting with the engineering, manufacturing and marketing teams

Electrical Engineer

  • Experience with high power analog circuit design, particularly high voltage DC power supplies and constant current circuits
  • Experience with digital circuit design
  • Experience with board layout, component selection, and circuit modeling
  • Experience with testing and qualifying PCB assemblies and electro‐optical assemblies
  • Very strong technical background required, with experience in developing industrial systems (high power opto‐electronics strongly preferred). Experience with industrial laser systems is a plus
  • Familiar with designing with protocols and devices using: I2C, UART, SPI, SDcard, Ethernet, RS232/RS485
  • Experience with TI CCS, LabVIEW, Vivado, and MATLAB is a plus
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Firmware Engineer

The engineer will be part of a dynamic team and work on cutting-edge laser technology for exciting applications. The successful candidate for this position will possess the following skills:  

  • High level of competency with VHDL and C
  • Able to design and use test script language such as Python to debug and test
  • Experience working with Xilinx Zynq FPGAs and embedded Linux environment
  • Familiar with real time operating systems concepts
  • Experience with protocols and device programming: I2C, UART, SPI, SDcard, Ethernet, RS232/RS485
  • Understand electrical schematics, component function and board layout
  • Experience with TI CCS, LabVIEW, and MATLAB is a plus
  • Good verbal and written communication skills  

Key responsibilities related to this position are as follows: 

  • Define and understand system level requirements by interacting with the engineering, manufacturing and marketing teams
  • Translate these into code level requirements and maintain all related project documentation
  • Maintenance and modification of existing embedded firmware
  • Implement VHDL, C and associated support infrastructure such as build tools, OS setup, boot sequencing, boot image files, debug paradigm, version control, etc… to fulfill requirements.
  • Develop and maintain all design documentation, including proper revision control of all generated software through generation of engineering change orders
  • Develop and implement test plans for validating code on hardware, and define design iterations with other levels of engineering to assure high level requirements are met
  • Participate in development of user interface tools based on embedded functionalities
