Engineering Project Manager

General Job Description

NUBURU Inc. is looking for a highly motivated technical leader with project management skills to join our dynamic engineering team and develop the next generation of laser engines for our high-power industrial laser systems. The successful candidate for this position will possess the following skills:

  • Very strong technical background required, with experience in developing industrial systems (high power opto electronics strongly preferred) 
  • Strong knowledge of automated assembly processes and volume manufacturing of high-technology complex devices
  • Proven track record of successfully managing engineering projects for new product introduction

Key responsibilities related to this position are as follows:

  • Develop overall project plan for the development of high-power laser sources based on target performance. Coordinate goals, milestones and deliverables with engineering, manufacturing and marketing teams
  • Lead development of technical plans for design phase (including verification/validation plan, qualification plan, reliability plan)
  • Participate in system level data analysis, ensure all necessary data is collected per plans, and verify project requirements are met
  • Translate overall project plan into detailed project schedule. Track progress of project against schedule and ensure project milestones are met
  • Coordinate activities of external partners and subcontractors involved in the project. Ensure that information circulates efficiently between all parties, host periodic follow-up meetings
  • Review tasks of the team of engineers/technicians through the course of the project
  • Verify that overall project documentation is up-to-date, properly reviewed and revision controlled. Coordinate manufacturing documentation
  • Work with manufacturing team to ensure that all documentation required for transfer to production is in place

  • Manage the AO and AI product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities

Optical Engineer

The engineer will be part of a dynamic team and work on cutting-edge laser technology for exciting applications. The successful candidate for this position will possess the following skills:

  • High level of competency with modeling of optical systems (Zemax highly preferred)
  • Experience with lasers, preferably laser diodes
  • Ability to develop optical alignment tooling and procedures
  • Experience with testing and qualifying optical performance of the optical assemblies
  • Experience with MATLAB and LabVIEW is a plus

Manufacturing Engineer

The Engineer will work in conjunction with Production and Product Dev. teams to develop and implement production processes, methods and controls to improve cost, efficiency, quality and output of cutting-edge laser systems.   • Strong technical knowledge of lasers and optics
  • Experience with laser and laser system assembly, testing, troubleshooting) or experience in the assembly of high tolerance, complex opto-mechanical products

  • Ability to analyze complex data to understand process and product performance

Laser Technician

The technician will be part of a dynamic team and work to meet Customer demand for cutting-edge laser systems. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following skills:

  • Experience with opto-mechanical assembly and laser alignment
  • Experience in the assembly of high tolerance, complex opto-mechanical products
  • Experience with manufacturing, Lean, Six Signa & statistical process control (SPC)
  • Hands-on experience with Shop Floor Control systems, Kan Ban, Inventory control

Application Engineer

NUBURU Inc. is looking for a highly motivated applications engineer to join our applications team and work with the next generation of industrial laser systems. The engineer will be part of a dynamic team and work with cutting-edge laser systems to develop exciting applications. From time to time he/she may be responsible for field service visits to customers at the direction of the Application Lab Manager. The successful candidate for this position will possess the following skills:

  • Experience with material processing utilizing a laser source.
  • Excel in customer interaction and customer satisfaction (both internal and external).
  • Prior on-site field service experience and ability to travel on as needed bases.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork and detail oriented.

  • Ability to think “outside the box”.
  • A sense of urgency, and a desire to close assigned tasks on time.
  • A service-oriented attitude towards customers.

Key responsibilities related to this position are as follows:

  • Articulate customer requests and determine best approach to solve the application request. Align the proposed plan with customer and the relevant sales engineer. 
  • Execute process with appropriate equipment in accordance to the agreed plan with customer and sales.
  • Design and create fixtures and setups, on as needed basis, to meet the need of customer request for processing samples.
  • Perform metallurgy studies as needed, including cross sectioning, sanding/polishing, etching, and imaging and new techniques developed by NUBURU.
  • Document logically and in detail application specific results following the plan and in accordance to the specific customers request. It should include but is not limited to data (in excel database), pictures (such as bead and cross sections ….) and all relevant comments and suggestions. Store samples in a well-organized fashion within a secure cabinet for future reference as needed.
  • Generate in good English, following the plan and in accordance to the specific customers request a test report summarizing the application specific results including all relevant comments and suggestion in support of the application. Have the report reviewed by the Application Manager and the relevant Sale engineer prior to sending it to the customer.
  • From time to time we may ask you to develop applications notes for training the sales force and for customers.
  • Generate samples for sales support purposes from time to time.
  • As needed, assist sales and marketing staff in assessing customer requests and customer results including but not limited to conference calls and visits.
  • Provide technical and applications support for commercial trade shows.
  • As needed, work closely with the Applications Manager to plan and document field service visits.
  • Provide technical and applications support for field service calls, including up to 30% international travel.
  • Diagnose, trouble-shoot mechanical electrical systems.
  • Excel in customer interaction and customer satisfaction (both internal and external).

Preferred credentials and experience

  • A minimum of 2 years product application experience and/or product support
  • A minimum of 2 years laser material processing experience
  • A minimum of 1 year conducting on-site field service calls
